Michigan's Forestry Assistance Program

Forest and Wildlife Management Assistance Program

The Forest and Wildlife Management Assistance Program of Alger and Marquette Counties promotes stewardship of forest resources on private lands. The program makes assistance available for wildlife habitat, timber production, tree planting, recreation, and forest health, as well as urban forestry and backyard wildlife. We provide on-site consultation, basic written information, and referrals to other service providers free of charge. Management suggestions are based on sound resource science and the landowner’s goals. This can help a landowner better understand, plan, manage, protect, and utilize their forest resources.

We offer several types of service:
  • FREE On-Site Property Evaluations
  • Information and Referral Services
  • Presentations and Workshops
  • Partnerships
  • Cost Share Opportunities
  • American Tree Farm certification and MAEAP verification
  • Understanding Property Tax reduction programs

How do I request assistance? Start by contacting our forester:

Sara Kelso, sara.kelso@macd.org
