AU TRAIN LAKE HABITAT ENHANCEMENT PROJECT - Saturday, March 4th, 10:00AM-3PM. Join us for this fun day of stewardship to build brush bundles as part of an effort to create habitat and boost fish populations in Au Train Lake. BIRDS, BEES, CRITTERS AND TREES WORKSHOP - Thursday, March 9th, 5:30-7:30PM at Mathais Township Hall in Trenary. ACD staff will be talking about a variety of topics from selecting the right tree for your site and objectives, to pollinator gardens and site prep. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about your spring tree planting!
ALGER CD'S 63RD ANNUAL MEETING - Thursday, March 23rd, 4:30PM at Gallery Coffee in Munising. Join us for hors d’oeuvres and cash bar, meet our board and mingle. Annual meeting and director elections will be held at 5:30PM, followed by short presentations by our staff and partners. Admission is free to all. We hope you will join us for a fun evening and conservation chat!
APRIL
FRUIT TREE HEALTH & PRUNING WORKSHOP - Saturday, April 8th, 9:30AM-11:30AM, 1485 High Street, Munising. Learn to prune and shape your young trees, rejuvenate old, neglected trees, fertilize and spray properly and perform maintenance pruning.
EARTH FEST 2023 - April 17th-22nd, Munising School Public Library - Check out a variety of earth focused displays and presentations throughout the week at this community event! ACD will have a display set up all week and we will be there on Earth Day from 10AM-1PM to answer your conservation questions and talk about our annual wildflower sale and how you can support pollinators!

ANNUAL WILDFLOWER SALE AND WILD ABOUT WILDFLOWERS WORKSHOP - Saturday, June 10th, 9:30AM-12:00PM at the Alger County Fairgrounds in Chatham. Come shop our great selection of local ecotype native wildflowers and grasses! Native plant guru, Vern Stephens of Designs by Nature will be back from 10:30AM-11:30AM with expert tips and an educational presentation. Wildflower orders will be available for pick up also.
E-WASTE & APPLIANCE RECYCLING EVENT - Friday, June 16th, 4PM-8PM & Saturday, June 17th, 8AM-noon
at the Munising High School parking lot, 810 M-28. Back by popular demand - this multi-partner event will help keep electronic waste and appliances out of landfills.
MARKET MONDAYS - Monday, June 26th, 4-7PM at Bayshore Park in Munising. Visit our table at the Munising Farmers' and Artisans' Market! We will be joined by NRCS District Conservationist, Misa Cady and NRCS Soil Conservationist, Kelly Sippl. Stop by and talk about conservation assistance and planning for your land! We will also have lots of free handouts and a variety of bird and bat houses and books for sale.
JULY
"HOW TO BUILD RAISED GARDEN BEDS WITH PALLETS" WORKSHOP - Friday, July 7th, 5PM-7PM at Chatham Community Gardens on Gladstone Street, Chatham. Alger Conservation District and the team will be on-site at Chatham Community Gardens to help participants build garden beds using up-cycled pallets! No tools or equipment required, bring yourself and the willingness to learn! Check out our " Friends of Chatham Community Gardens" Facebook page!
MARKET MONDAYS - Monday, July 17th, 4PM-7PM at Bayshore Park, Munising - Visit our table at the Munising Farmers' and Artisans' Market! We will be joined by American Bird Conservancy Forester, Michael Paling. If you are interested in improving the wildlife habitat on your property and looking to provide better habitat for ruffed grouse, woodcock, white-tailed deer, and/or declining song bird populations, stop by and chat with Michael! We will also have bird and bat houses, and a small selection of books for sale.
AUTRAIN RIVER AIS LANDING BLITZ- Thursday, July 27th, 12NOON-3PM at the Au Train Heritage Trailhead on M-28 & AuTrain Forest Lake Road - ACD along with L2L CISMA will be hanging out on the Au Train River to talk to paddlers, local landowners, and all river enthusiasts about aquatic invasive species (AIS), and how you can help stop the spread! Do you want to learn about the invasive flowering rush that has infested the Au Train River and even some spots on Au Train Lake? Help us stop the spread into other local rivers, streams and waterways! We will have kayak decontamination demonstrations as well as lots of informational brochures, pamphlets and FREE swag!

CLEAN BOATS, CLEAN WATERS LANDING BLITZ - Friday, August 4th, 9AM-Noon at the Munising Municipal Boat Launch and 1PM-4PM at the AuTrain Brownstone Boat Launch. Join ACD staff and the MSU Clean Boats, Clean Waters boat wash crew for FREE boat washes and lots of great info on Aquatic Invasive Species and free swag!
